Weekly Lottery Rules

1. These Terms and Conditions are the rules of the Marie Curie weekly lottery (the “Lottery”). By entering the Lottery, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

2. For the purpose of the Gambling Act 2005, this raffle is defined as a 'Society Lottery'.

3. This Lottery is being promoted by and on behalf of Marie Curie. Marie Curie is a charity registered in England & Wales (207994) and in Scotland (SC038731) and a registered company limited by guarantee in England & Wales (507597) whose registered office is at One Embassy Gardens, 8 Viaduct Gardens, London, SW11 7BW. Marie Curie is registered with the Gambling Commission (www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk) (with licence number 000-004765-R-104344-021 and 000-004765-N-100311-022) to operate as a ‘Society Lottery’.

4. This Lottery is administered by our external lottery management company, Sterling Management Centre Limited (“Sterling”). Sterling is licenced by the Gambling Commission under licence number 003137-N-103725-015 and 003137-R-308141-011.

5. The registered Responsible Person for the Lottery is Maria Novell.

6. The Lottery is open to all residents of Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) who are aged 18 (eighteen) or over. Marie Curie and Sterling reserve the right to verify the age of any participant.

7. We warn that underage gambling is an offence. Any person found to be under 18 (eighteen) years of age automatically forfeits the right to any prize.

8. Employees of Sterling may not enter the Lottery.

9. Marie Curie employees and family members of employees who could directly influence draws either by access to data or through relationship with third parties are not able to enter the Lottery. All other employees are permitted to take part. A family member is considered to be a spouse, partner, close blood relation or spouse of a close blood relation.

10. In 2021, we received £2,700, 407 in lottery ticket sales. 65% was spent on directly supporting people living with a terminal illness, 5% on prizes and 30% on expenses. Expenses are used for investment to grow the Lottery and increase income to support people living with a terminal illness.

11. Net proceeds go to Marie Curie minus the cost of running the lottery.

12. Based on the average number of lottery entries in 2021, we estimate the odds of winning a prize to be 1/4500. Please note: it is not possible to predict the exact chances of winning a prize as this is not a ‘fixed odds’ lottery and actual odds will vary from draw to draw. You do not need to be present at the draw to win the Lottery.

13. To enter the Lottery, players must purchase one or more lottery tickets. All tickets are priced at £1 per week. Participants may purchase more than one ticket for each weekly draw and can enter up to 30 entries in the draw each week.

14. Payment for Lottery tickets can be made by cheque, debit card or Direct Debit and PSMS.

15. Full payment for each ticket must be received in cleared funds before the ticket can be entered into the draw. Only tickets for which full payment has been received are eligible to win a prize.

16. If there is a cancelled draw, we may refund your entry fee on request or credit the fee to the next prize draw. We will not refund you if the draw is delayed or postponed as you will still enter the delayed or postponed draw. All participants acknowledge that their payment of £1 per ticket to enter the Lottery does not guarantee that they will win any prize.

17. When you purchase a ticket on the website, a unique ticket number will be generated, by random selection through secure computer software. This number will be issued to you by post or email.
18. Each ticket is unique and has a serial number. This serial number is used to determine the winner.
19. The weekly draw is administered by Sterling. Winning numbers will be chosen at random using a random number generator, in a secure environment and in the presence of an adjudicator from all entries received by the closing date.

20. The draw time for entries is every Friday between 9am and 2pm. However Marie Curie reserves the right to amend the draw time at its discretion. When a Friday falls on a bank holiday the draw may take place the next working day. Winners will be available on www.goodwaystowin.com one working day later. A list of winners can also be obtained by contacting the Supporter Relations Team on 0800 716 146 or Supporter.Relations@mariecurie.org.uk.

21. The prizes for the Lottery are 1st Prize £2,000; 2nd Prize £200; 3rd Prize £75; 4th Prize £50; 5th Prize £25; Runners up: 45 prizes of £10 each.

22. Winning cheques will be made in the name of the entrant only.

23. Marie Curie reserves the right in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances to substitute any of the Lottery prizes for a similar prize at Marie Curie's absolute discretion.

24. Marie Curie will send winners their prizes automatically by cheque.

25. Any prize not claimed within 6 months will be treated as a donation - thank you.

26. In the rare event that any error occurs and tickets are not entered into the draw, unentered tickets will instead be entered into the next available draw.

27. Active lottery players will be automatically entered into a Super Draw four times a year . Each entry up to maximum of 30; is provided with a unique ticket and serial number. The Super Draw is run by the external lottery managers, Woods Valldata. Terms and Conditions for the Super Draw can be found here under Raffle.

28. By entering the Lottery, entrants agree that if they win, their titles, surnames and town will be published on the Marie Curie website and potentially other promotional material. We also request winners to complete a winner questionnaire and return a photo of themselves to use on future promotional material. Should this be returned to Marie Curie the permission to use it can be withdrawn at any time by a winner by mailing gaming@mariecurie.org.uk or writing to Weekly Lottery Manager, Marie Curie, One Embassy Gardens, 8 Viaduct Gardens, London, SW11 7BW. Please note: it is not possible to exactly predict the chances of winning a prize as this is not a ‘fixed odds’ raffle.

20. The winners of the raffle prizes will be notified by letter within 30 days and we will attempt to contact the first, second, and third prize winners by phone. If we do not have these details we will send prizes/cheques via the post. The top prize will be sent via recorded delivery.

21. Where we are not provided with sufficient information to make out and send a cheque we will make every effort to contact the winner to obtain the required details. If we are unable to make contact within 14 days of the draw, unclaimed prizes will be reallocated to another raffle entrant. A number of extra draws are made on the draw date in case of this eventuality.
